Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston, ISU psychology alumna, has been named President of Norfolk State University. Dr. Adams-Gaston received her PhD in Counseling Psychology in 1983. She worked with Emeritus Professor Fred Borgen.
Dr. Craig Anderson and his graduate student Andreas Miles-Novelo published an article in Current Climate Change Report in which they showed that climate change increases the likelihood of violence. More information about their research can be found here.
Post-Doctoral Fellows in Psychology receive the Early Career Research Grant from the American Psychology-Law Society. Congratulations to Distinguished Professor Craig Anderson for receiving the 2018 SPSP Distinguished Scholar Award. Dr. Anderson was recognized for receipt of this award at an awards ceremony at the SPSP conference in Portland, February 7-9, 2019.
Dr. Brooke Arterberry published an article in Drug and Alcohol Dependence showing that higher than average potency cannabis at first use increases the risk for the first symptom of cannabis use disorder within a year of use. More information about her research can be found here.
Dr. Zlatan Krizan published an article in Journal of Experimental Psychology: General in which he showed that sleep-restricted individuals show a trend toward increased anger and distress, essentially reversing their ability to adapt to frustrating conditions over time here.
Dr. Doug Gentile published an article in Psychology of Popular Media Culture in which he discusses how playing video games to cope with anxiety may increase people’s risk for video gaming addiction. More information about Dr. Gentile’s research can be found here.
